May not be all that appropriate, but Peter Hartcher in Australia's 'The Age' https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/is-albanese-now-one-of-the-world-s-top-progressive-leaders-he-s-got-a-case-20251003-p5mzsx.html made potent reference to "dead-end delusions of identity politics and culture wars" followed by "He did not utter any of the pet causes of identity politics. No mention of transgender rights, black sovereignty, minority causes, marijuana." What a relief! Someone in the mainstream dares to break the spell.

"Identity" politics is a cancer - unless stamped out will keep growing & extending to where it does most harm. The violent clowns at Jan6 insurrection were right out of that playbook. Elaborate hairdos, long fingernails, crazy headwear, flags, fancy dress and tattoos add nothing to civil discussion, always distract and seem designed to confront or subvert.

Another thing - it would be helpful to keep in mind the not-so-subtle distinctions between autocracy and authoritarianism. Those of us with a conservative outlook, who are repelled by all aspects of "identity" politics, are likely positioned toward the left-hand end of the Authoritarian spectrum.

Lastly, those yearning for moderate discourse would do well to find ways to express why Trump's usage of "enemies" and hatred (a la Carl Schmitt) is antithetical to ideals of collaboration.
